Ulvi Hasanli

Ulvi Hasanli is the director and co-founder of Abzas Media, an independent media platform known for its corruption investigations.

Before founding Abzas Media in 2016, he was active in civic and political movements, including the Dalga Youth Movement, the Free Youth Organization, the National Council of Democratic Forces, and the NIDA Civic Movement.

Under his leadership, Abzas Media published investigations into the business dealings of government officials, including corruption in reconstruction projects carried out in Karabakh since 2020.

Hasanli was arrested on November 20, 2023, in connection with the “Abzas Media case,” which he has said is linked to the outlet’s investigations.

Even in detention, he continued writing about unlawful practices, human rights violations, and inhuman treatment in the penitentiary system.

In June 2025, he was sentenced to nine years in prison, and local and international human rights organizations have recognized him as a political prisoner.
