Sevinj Vagifgizi

Sevinj Vagifgizi is the editor-in-chief of Abzas Media and one of Azerbaijan’s leading investigative journalists.

She has worked in journalism since her student years and has reported for outlets including Bizim Yol, Azadliq, and Meydan TV before joining Abzas Media.

As editor-in-chief, she led investigations into corruption involving President Ilham Aliyev’s family, senior officials, and the reconstruction of Karabakh.

Over the years, Vagifgizi has faced repeated pressure, detention, surveillance, and prosecution because of her journalistic work.

In June 2025, she was sentenced to nine years in prison in the “Abzas Media case,” which she has described as politically motivated.

International human rights and media freedom organizations have recognized her as a political prisoner and called for her release.
