Public activist and founder of “Yoldaş Media,” Ahmad Mammadli, has been sentenced to six years in prison.
The verdict was announced on March 16 at the Baku Court for Grave Crimes during a hearing chaired by Judge Vugar Seyidov.
In his closing statement, the state prosecutor had requested a nine-year prison sentence for Mammadli. After deliberation, the court announced its final decision.
Ahmad Mammadli was detained on May 6, 2025. He was charged under articles of the Criminal Code related to intentionally causing serious bodily harm and hooliganism.
According to the investigation, on May 6 last year, Vugar Rasim oglu Dunyamaliyev (born in 1988) received stab wounds to the abdomen on R. Ismayilov Street in the Bilajari settlement. As a result of operational-search measures, law enforcement determined that the perpetrator was Ahmad Vugar oglu Mammadli (born in 2001), who was subsequently detained.
During one of the previous court hearings, Mammadli presented his version of the events that occurred on the day of his detention. According to him, he was the last passenger in a “manat taxi,” and no dispute occurred during the trip. Mammadli stated that after the car stopped, an unknown person forcibly pulled him out of the vehicle, after which Vugar Dunyamaliyev, who is recognized as the victim in the case, inflicted injuries on him.
The public activist also said he was subjected to torture during his detention and claimed that a “fabricated crime scenario” was constructed at the scene. He denies the charges against him and links the prosecution to his socio-political and journalistic activities.
