A court in Azerbaijan has extended the pre-trial detention of lawyer Zabil Gahramanov by two months, local media reported.

According to APA news agency, the decision was made on March 18 at the Sabail District Court in Baku.

Gahramanov was detained on October 23, 2025, by police in the city of Ganja. Two days later, a local court ordered his initial pre-trial detention.

He was initially charged under articles related to fraud and hooliganism. Authorities allege that he used violence during a dispute with an employee at a car wash and, in a separate case, took money in exchange for resolving a legal issue without fulfilling the promise.

Gahramanov denies the charges, saying the accusations are fabricated and that individuals are being used to target him.

In January 2026, additional charges were brought against him, expanding the case to include multiple counts of fraud and hooliganism, according to his lawyer.

The defense says the case was later transferred to the Interior Ministry’s Main Investigation Department, and Gahramanov was moved to a pre-trial detention facility in Baku.

Gahramanov has previously worked on several high-profile cases in Azerbaijan, including the defense of individuals involved in the Tartar case and other politically sensitive investigations.
