According to the lawyer, the director of "Abzas Media," investigative journalist Ulvi Hasanli, has received death threats after reporting issues within the detention center.

His complaint to the Penitentiary Service and Baku Pre-trial Detention Center No. 1 was dismissed. Lawyer Zibeyda Sadigova provided this information, noting that the case was heard in the Khatai District Court. The complaint primarily addressed violations of the detainee's rights, including allegations of torture and brutal treatment.

"In our court complaint, we highlighted that water is only available for 1-2 hours each day in Baku Pre-trial Detention Center No. 1. Hasanli is confined to a space of just 4 square meters, and he is subjected to checks and interrogations when arriving and departing from meetings with his lawyers. Additionally, his telephone conversations are monitored," the lawyer stated.

Zibeyda Sadigova stated that Ulvi Hasanli's life is in serious danger after he revealed information about the torture of other detainees in the detention center.

He is facing a death threat. On September 11, he was assaulted by an employee named Naib. He is prohibited from meeting his 2-year-old child and is being brought to court under inhumane conditions, as noted by his lawyer in the complaint.

Sadigova stated that no one from the opposing side attended the court. Judge Rafail Sadikhov dismissed the complaint.

Last year, on November 20, Ulvi Hasanli, the director of "Abzas Media," and his deputy, Mahammad Kekalov, were arrested. Following this, on November 21, the site’s editor-in-chief, Sevinj Vagifgizi, was also arrested. On November 30, journalist Nargiz Absalamova was taken into custody, and on December 13, investigative journalist Hafiz Babali was arrested. Additionally, reporter Elnara Gasimova was arrested on January 13. They were all charged under Article 206.3.2 of the Criminal Code, which pertains to smuggling committed by a group that colluded in advance. Pre-trial measures were imposed on them.

Farid Mehralizade, arrested on June 1, is also linked to the investigation into the "Abzas Media" case. However, he denies any connection with the media outlet. The editorial office of "Abzas Media" has issued a statement clarifying that there was no cooperation with Mehralizade.

New, more serious charges have been filed against those arrested in the Abzas Media case, with seven additional articles added. They are now accused of the following under the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan:

- Article 192.3.2: Illegal entrepreneurship with significant profit
- Articles 193-1.3.1 and 193-1.3.2: Legalization of criminal proceeds by an organized group
- Article 206.4: Smuggling by an organized group
- Articles 320.1 and 320.2: Falsification of documents and use of forged documents
- Article 213.2.1: Group tax evasion

With these new charges, they now face a maximum sentence of up to 12 years in prison, increased from the previous maximum of 8 years.

The journalists deny all accusations and claim their arrests are linked to corruption investigations published by Abzas Media.
